WinnersTop Performing Hospitals Recognized at 2008 Summit

On June 4-6, the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters hosted the 2008 100 Top Hospitals® Summit at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Summit attendees celebrated the achievements of the entire 100 Top Hospitals community by honoring past and present award winners through three days of exciting and educational content tailored to the interests of healthcare leaders.

All 100 Top Hospitals award winners were honored during Thursday evening’s black tie awards dinner and congratulated on their exceptional performance. Special recognition was given to hospitals that won the 100 Top Hospitals National award 10 times or more, as well as those that won the 100 Top Hospitals National or Cardiovascular awards five times. These winners were also recognized in a two-page ad in the June 2 issue of Modern Healthcare.

Speakers
Jim Collins, author of Good to Great and co-author of Built to Last, inspired the audience to strive for greatness and included his research specific to the social sector. An interactive portion of the presentation allowed for an extended question and answer session.

Lawrence Prybil, M.A., Ph.D., F.A.C.H.E., professor and senior advisor to the dean, College of Public Health, The University of Iowa, presented recent research on governance in non-profit community health systems.

Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president, performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals programs, Thomson Reuters, provided an overview of the methodology used in the 100 Top Hospitals studies.

Kaveh Safavi, M.D., J.D., chief medical officer, Thomson Reuters, shared his ever-popular “By the Numbers” presentation, updated with new data for 2008 and tailored specifically to the 100 Top Hospitals Summit audience.

Executive Education
A unique educational session presented by Thomson Reuters and Duke University focused on management decisions that affect the cost and quality of providing healthcare. The Duke presentation also included a panel discussion with leading healthcare executives.

Networking
Summit attendees enjoyed numerous opportunities to connect with other top-performing hospital executives, including an optional golf outing on Wednesday afternoon, a welcome reception and dinner on Wednesday evening, and Thursday evening’s black tie awards reception and dinner.
